The New Face(book) of Event Marketing

What do a makeshift test kitchen in Times Square, a video booth in the shape of a giant coffee cup, a house party where guests receive scented candles, and an interactive photo op with WWE wrestlers have in common? Answer: Each “event” was built around the idea of immersing consumers in a one-to-one experience, allowing them to touch and feel a brand. And in each case, the marketers achieved greater impact using social media.

Event marketing is a comparatively low-tech field; sampling programs, fan meet-and-greets and mobile tours are hardly cutting edge techniques, although they work. “Experiential marketing has always allowed brands to foster a closer relationship with their intended audiences by appealing to the consumer in a more holistic fashion,” says Erik Hauser, founder and director of the online Experiential Marketing Forum. “The engagement tools have changed over the years, but not the premise of why it’s better to use experiential methodology.”...

Swivel's Hauser changes clients' PR experience

Earlier this month, when CareerBuilder.com sought a new way to reach tomorrow's work force, it turned to Erik Hauser and his firm Swivel Media.

Founded in 1999 by Hauser, who sees Swivel as a "media agnostic" firm that exists across the marketing spectrum, Swivel launched a campaign to encourage college students to participate in an Interview Aptitude Test. The test takes place inside a customized video booth and generates feedback on the interview.

Tallinn Marketing Forum 2008 

The largest marketing conference in Northern Europe will take place in Tallinn on the 10th and 11th of April in the auditoriums of the conference centers of the Russian Drama Theatre, Hotel Olümpia and Sokos Hotel Viru, organized by Estonian Conferences.

Cambria targets tech lovers who travel for business

Near the indoor amusement park at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, between anchor stores Macy's and Nordstrom, sits a 30-foot by 13-foot hotel suite from the new Cambria Suites, a division of Choice Hotels.

The outside facade is the exact replica of the real hotel's exterior, complete with the signature tower. Inside, visitors can try out the wireless connection, turn on the flat-screen TV, hook their iPod into the clock radio with the MP3 jack, or sprawl on the king-size bed. Erik Hauser is a media professional who doesn’t really believe in media. He calls himself “media agnostic.” The founder of Swivel Media, a San Francisco marketing agency, refuses to be constrained by traditional tactics and is paving his own path with his own theories.

“We’re not confined to one medium like print, TV or radio,” he said. “Sometimes we even create new mediums and create new impressions with the consumer. One of the great things for me is that we look at what we do as a lot more than marketing. It’s kind of a kinetic art.”
